Stay at our hotel in the centre of town. The Hotel Thüringenschanze is a family-run 3-star hotel. The hotel rooms, with their cosy double beds, are around 23 m² in size. The hotel has its own sauna. Massages can be booked on request. You should book the desired treatment times when you make your reservation.
In the morning, you can fortify yourself for your day’s holiday at the large breakfast buffet. A packed lunch can also be ordered from the hotel for when you are out and about. In the evening, round off the day with a sumptuous evening buffet. Our tip: Non-alcoholic drinks with your meal are already included if you book half board.

Continue in the direction of the Oberhof luge and bobsleigh track. Today, this is also known as the LOTTO-Thüringen ice arena. Catch a glimpse of the competitive athletes in training or the up-and-coming stars of tomorrow. The building is certainly impressive. The Fallbachhang Oberhof is located right next to the luge track. In summer, the Oberhof bike park attracts all kinds of courageous downhill specialists to the mountain. Alpine skiing is on the programme in winter. Hikers can also use the lift for transport up or down the mountain. So if you have explored the toboggan run from top to bottom, it is easy to get back up the mountain.
The nearest neighbour in the chain of Oberhof sports facilities is the LOTTO-Thüringen-Skihalle Oberhof. This unique building is home to snow 365 days a year – cross-country skiing whenever you want – and the biathlon hall.
The journey continues to the LOTTO-Thüringen-ARENA on the Rennsteig. The famous biathlon stadium in Oberhof. You’ve probably seen it on television before. The “Oberhof witches’ cauldron” attracts many thousands of fans to the Rennsteig every year for the Biathlon World Cup. Another beautiful hike then follows from the Grenzadler, the square by the stadium, to the ski jumps in Kanzlersgrund. Impressive structures, not for the faint-hearted. Are you still fit? Then hikers can also walk up or down the steps next to the ski jumps.
Rennsteiggarten Oberhof
We also highly recommend a trip to the Rennsteiggarten Oberhof. If the weather is nice, you can also hike there from the hotel. You will need about half an hour on foot if you walk at a leisurely pace. The Rennsteiggarten is located at the “Rondell” Oberhof, just outside – directly on the Rennsteig.
The botanical garden for mountain flora displays more than 4,000 plant species from all over the world. Take a stroll through the fascinating flora of the high mountains. And without any great effort. You will also be rewarded time and again with breathtaking views over the Thuringian Forest.
