The Thuringian Forest is the cradle of glass Christmas tree decorations. Around one hundred and fifty years ago, the glassblowers in Lauscha made a virtue out of necessity. The glass artists could not afford expensive apples, so they blew glass Christmas tree decorations for their children. This became a long Thuringian tradition.
