Botanical garden for mountain flora – visit the high mountains of the world
Not far from our hotel in Oberhof, directly at the “Rondell”, a colourful variety of enchanting flowers awaits the visitor. A special garden has been created over an area of 7,000 m² in more than 50 years. Breathtaking views from the 868 metre high Pfanntalskopf are included. When else do you hike through Asia, Europe, America to New Zealand and the Arctic regions of the world?
The circular trail in the Rennsteiggarten leads through the various areas over a length of around one kilometre. The start of the tour is the lovingly designed central display area. There is always something new to discover in this area throughout the season.
Especially on sunny days, the entire garden is buzzing and humming. Numerous bumblebees and all kinds of other creepy-crawlies feast on the enchanting flowers.
Rhododendron lovers get their money’s worth in June. The Asia area with its old stands already smells from afar. Even before you discover the pink, yellow, white and orange blossom artworks, your nose is whisked away to a new world.

Excursion for the whole family
In addition to the exotic plant species, the nature conservation garden, a moorland area and the Thuringian medicinal herb garden have been created in recent years. You can also refresh your knowledge of the local flora. In the medicinal herb garden, you can also learn about the healing properties of the plants.
At various points in the garden, play elements and information boards offer a change of pace for the whole family. A leaf as big as if you were an ant. Jumping like a rabbit or crawling like a beetle between the blades of grass. Boredom is out of place.
Shelters and cosy spots with breathtaking views invite you to linger.
