After a hearty and leisurely breakfast at our hotel, nothing stands in the way of a day of adventure. Oberhof is a natural paradise for active holidaymakers. Take the children out into the healthy air of the forests on a family holiday and go on a discovery tour.
We recommend exploring the nature adventure trail inOberhof with your children. A circuit that is also easy to manage with smaller children. It’s only a 5-minute walk from the hotel to the entrance of the Oberhof nature adventure trail. It starts in the immediate vicinity of the Oberer Hof. Along the way, there are natural obstacles to overcome, wonderful sculptures to discover and one or two things to do yourself. Our families are always very enthusiastic about the activity trail.
Hikes
The pushchair hiking trails in Oberhof are a real highlight for families with small children .
The circular trails are marked with a pushchair.
On three different circuits, which lead very easily around Oberhof, the pushchair is easy to push or the little ones can start their first hike without any obstacles. There are also little surprises along the pram paths.
Schützenberg moor nature trail
The Schützenbergmoor is a leisurely hike from the Hotel Thüringenschanze. Ideal for families with children of all ages.
The hike is also possible with a pushchair on well-maintained paths. You will cross the Rennsteig trail on the way.
On the small circular trail directly across the moor, you can see the typical plants of the raised bogs up close. Enjoy the special magic of this mystical place.
Rennsteiggarten Oberhof
Another lovely little tour with the children takes you to the Rennsteiggarten Oberhof. The Rennsteiggarten Oberhof is one of the biggest attractions in the town.
From the end of April to the beginning of November, the botanical landscape garden for mountain plants offers a wonderful time amidst a sea of flowers. The interactive play stations in the Rennsteiggarten are particularly popular with younger children. At the end of the tour, delicious cakes and ice cream await the family.

Many of the obstacles on the climbing tower have a regional connection. The variety of themes ranges from the popular characters from the children’s channel to popular sports in Thuringia. Matching the nearby world-famous training facilities such as the biathlon arena, bobsleigh and luge track or the ski jump in Kanzlersgrund. From 3 to 99 years.

Of course, this is obvious. On one day, your family holiday offer includes admission to the H2Oberhof wellness pool. But a visit to Oberhof’s wellness oasis is also worthwhile on other days. With your Oberhof guest card, you receive a 20%discount on all standard rates. The spa is only a 10-minute walk from the hotel. You can expect a bathing area with several pools, a particularly beautiful baby area and, in summer, a spacious sunbathing lawn around the outdoor pool. The highlight of the H2Oberhof wellness centre is undoubtedly the sauna oasis. Eight different, modern saunas offer your whole family pure sauna fun. In addition, the Kneipp area and the wellness treatments are the perfect complement to a wellness day in Oberhof.
Exotarium Oberhof
In the Exotarium Oberhof you can experience exotic creatures from all over the world. All kinds of creepy-crawlies and crawlies will delight the little ones on your family holiday. The Exotarium is located in the Oberer Hof, opposite the Oberhof Information Centre.
Up close, eye to eye with snakes, scorpions and spiders – an exciting excursion in the dry. The net pythons, which are over 6 metres long, and the impressive stingrays are definitely the main attraction of the aquarium and terrarium zoo.
Marvel at the highly venomous snakes or observe the scorpions and tarantulas up close. There is a lot to discover here.
Glass art
Traditional arts and crafts in the Thuringian Forest Visit the over 300 m² sales and exhibition rooms of the Glasstube in Oberhof. Here you will find souvenirs and Thuringian handicrafts from our own production and from Thuringian partners. A year-round Christmas market also awaits you during your visit. In the show studio, children and adults can experience at first hand how simple glass tubes and rods are transformed into colourful works of art, collector’s items and unique pieces. Visitors can also get creative themselves by blowing a glass ball or decorating it in colour.
