Suhl, worth seeing for visitors

In the town centre, in the malt house of a former brewery, you will find the Weapons Museum, where you can follow the historical and technical development of weapons right up to today’s hunting and sporting weapons. Not far away is the Congress Centrum Suhl (CCS), which offers a varied programme of events, including concerts, congresses and exhibitions. The Suhl Vehicle Museum, which is also housed in the CCS, is well worth a visit. It is itself of great importance. Exhibits from the heyday of Suhl vehicle production are on display here, including the Simson Supra, the Greifzu BMW racing car, Germany’s first pedal-powered bicycle and the Schwalbe and Star mopeds, etc. TheOtilienbad, which is connected to the CCS, offers good recreational opportunities in the centre of the city.

Culture in Suhl

The Steinweg is characterised by houses worth seeing and is also home to the Suhl Kreuzkirche, which is a special gem with its Eilert-Köhler organ, some of which has been preserved in its original state, and near the Steinweg is the main church of St. Marien, which has a unique rococo style.Directly on the market square is the Suhl armourer’s forge from 1903, which, like the museum, is a reminder of Suhl’s weapons production. Nearby is the famous restaurant of the same name, which housed the only Japanese restaurant in the GDR until the 1990s. This story was made into a film entitled “Sushi in Suhl” starring Uwe Steimle.
