In the morning, when you are still asleep, our dear cross-country skiers, like the good forest fairies, set off for your perfect winter holiday in Thuringia and prepare many hundreds of kilometres of trails through the Thuringian Forest. Around Oberhof alone, you will find an extensive network of cross-country ski trails that offer many a challenge. Perhaps you will meet one or two well-known cross-country skiers, biathletes or Nordic combined athletes on their training rounds. In any case, the young athletes training in Oberhof are part of everyday life. Following them is certainly a nice change from cross-country skiing.
But those who prefer alpine skiing will not miss out in Oberhof either. The Oberhof ski slope offers just the right thing, especially for families or for cruising in for the new season. The new lift system on the Fallbach slope has been providing even more skiing fun for some time now. Cross-country and alpine skis can be hired in Oberhof. This means you don’t have to carry too much luggage in your holiday car.
Winter holidays in Thuringia also include classic tobogganing. Get on your sledge and toboggan well… In Oberhof, there are tobogganing opportunities at the “Alte Golfwiese” and, if the snow conditions are good, also over almost 2 km downhill on the Oberhof natural toboggan run. If this is open, there is also a shuttle bus that takes you and your toboggan back to the starting point at the Rondell. Toboggans can also be hired.

Of course, Oberhof is THE winter sports Eldorado. The Oberhof sports centres are known far beyond the borders of Germany. At the beginning of the year, Oberhof is always the focus of the biathlon world with the annual Biathlon World Cup. The Biathlon World Championships will follow in February 2023. The luge and bobsleigh track is also a highlight in every luge World Cup calendar. Numerous other competitions in cross-country skiing, skeleton, bobsleigh and ski jumping attract fans and athletes from all over the world to Oberhof year after year. However, you also have the chance to meet some of the winter’s top athletes in Oberhof in summer. Some live in Oberhof, others come to Oberhof regularly for training.
